On April 18, 2006, the Islip Board of Education adopted a Wellness Policy to meet State and Federal regulations. The goal of the policy is to improve the student's health and well-being. The Wellness Committee has been working hard to address the initiatives of the policy, which include: education, physical activity, nutrition, and creating a school environment conducive to promoting healthful habits.
The Islip Wellness Policy is designed around the beliefs that:
EDUCATION is key to improving the lifestyles of future generations;
students need to learn how to BALANCE their life--in terms of diet, exercise, and lifestyle--in order to achieve optimal health; and most importantly,
improving student wellness is a GROUP EFFORT involving students, parents, teachers, staff and community.
Together, we hope to educate and gradually improve student wellness behaviors.
Information on wellness will be made available through newsletters, the District's website, on the back of menus, at PTA meetings, in the classroom, and during special district events. Please support our wellness goals by encouraging your children to eat well, exercise, and participate in various school and community activities to help foster WELLNESS.
