Islip High School students in Preston Hulse’s cooking classes recently partnered with students in Renee Clock and Michael Bosco’s Virtual Enterprise firm, Flex Fuel, to learn how to create a functional website. The cooking students were tasked with the assignment of developing a website for their final project. They had to develop a website with information on their food truck business, including items such as menu, location, logo, slogan and buy button. The Virtual Enterprise students learned how to create a website this year as part of their business plan and marketing competitions, and were happy to share their knowledge with the students in Hulse’s classes.

“Students sharing their knowledge with their peers is a great way to interconnect the two disciplines of business and family and consumer science classes,” Hulse said.

“When students from two different departments come together to share knowledge and learn from each other, it creates a great collaboration amongst students and their teachers,” Clock said. “It’s another technique of teaching ‘outside the box’ and modeling real-world business activities.”
