Approximately 30 students in Islip High School’s Keep Islip Clean club teamed up with Seatuck Environmental Center on May 21 for the club’s annual Pond Day event. Guided by KIC adviser Wayne Mennecke, the students helped remove invasive flag irises from the local wetlands, clean up the hiking and walking trails around the Seatuck property, and dispose of litter dumped in the woods.

On June 12, six of those students were inducted into the Keep Islip Clean Junior Commissioner program, which empowers student leaders to encourage schools and communities to participate in recycling and beautification projects. Students inducted for the 2023-2024 school year were Emerson Concannon, Katherine Cottral, Eric Heimlich, Lauren Limmer, Katerina Mennecke and Jaci Narducci.
