Students in the Islip School District are taught Social Studies from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Our Social Studies instruction is aligned with the New York State Social Studies Framework for grades K-12. The New York State Social Studies curriculum is based on the following five academic standards: the History of the United States and New York, World History, Geography, Economics, and Civics, Citizenship, and Government. There are two Social Studies Regents exams which are required for high school graduation in New York State. The Regents exam in Global History and Geography II is given in grade ten and covers world history beginning in the year 1750.  The Regents exam in United States History and Government is given to students at the end of eleventh grade.  Students are also required to take Global History and Geography I in grade nine and Economics and Civics in grade twelve in order to graduate high school.

Beyond these core courses, the department offers a range of Advanced Placement opportunities, including AP Human Geography, AP European History, AP United States History, AP United States Government and Politics, and AP Psychology. Students also have the opportunity to earn the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness upon graduation, highlighting their engagement with civic knowledge, skills, and participation.

The Business Department provides students with a comprehensive  pathway into the world of business and finance, offering courses that span entrepreneurship, accounting, marketing, personal finance, and business law. Students may begin with introductory courses such as Career and Financial Management, then advance to electives in College Accounting, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, College Business Owenership and Marketing, and College Business Law, enabling them to explore multiple facets of the business world. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in Virtual Enterprise, a simulated business environment where they create and manage a company in a global marketplace, and College Real Estate, a dual-enrollment course that provides both high school and college credit while preparing students for the real estate industry. Students leave equipped not only with foundational knowledge in business disciplines but also with practical experience and a competitive edge for future academic or professional pursuits.

Thank you for your continued support of. Together, we will achieve great things!
