Josh Alarcon Named QuestBridge Scholar, Headed to Yale University

Islip High School is proud to announce that senior Josh Alarcon has been awarded the prestigious QuestBridge National College Match Scholarship and will attend Yale University this fall. QuestBridge’s National College Match offers high-achieving students binding admission and a full four-year scholarship to one of its 55 partner institutions. Being selected as a Match Scholar means Josh will be able to pursue his academic passions without the financial burden that often accompanies higher education.

The Islip School District proudly recognized student achievement at its January Board of Education meeting during the annual Night of Champions, a celebration honoring excellence both on the field and in the classroom. Islip High School Students Explore College Pathways on Mid-Atlantic Fall 2025 Tour

For many high school students, the college search and admissions process is both exciting and overwhelming. Islip High School is committed to supporting students in grades nine through twelve throughout this important journey by providing early, meaningful exposure to a wide range of postsecondary opportunities. More than 65 Islip High School students and their chaperones participated in a three-day, two-night college awareness tour of the Mid-Atlantic region.

NYPD Jazz Band Brings Music and Joy to Commack Road Elementary School

Students and staff at Commack Road Elementary School were treated to a special musical performance this week when the NYPD Jazz Band visited, filling the auditorium with vibrant jazz melodies and rhythms that had the whole school swaying. The performance, part of the NYPD’s ongoing community outreach, showcased a repertoire of jazz standards and popular tunes performed by the department’s talented ensemble.

Islip High School Showcases Student Talent in Jazz & Rock Concert

On Wednesday, January 14, Islip High School’s auditorium came alive with an energetic and diverse musical celebration as students took the stage for the annual Jazz and Rock Showcase Concert. The event, presented by the Islip Union Free School District, offered a free evening of live music highlighting the creativity and dedication of young performers from across the district. The showcase featured performances by the Islip Middle School Jazz Band, the IHS Electric Ensemble, and the IHS Jazz Band, giving audiences a rich mix of jazz improvisations and rock-inspired electric sets. Families, friends, and community members packed the auditorium to support the student musicians, cheering on solos and ensemble pieces alike.
