Islip Middle School Sixth Graders Get Creative with Geography Through Map Projects
Islip Middle School’s sixth grade social studies students recently brought geography to life with their imaginative and hands-on map projects
Using materials like salt dough, pizza boxes, pumpkins, craft paper, and paint, students designed colorful political, physical, and special purpose maps that reflected both creativity and academic understanding.
Each project highlighted key map features such as keys, legends, and compass roses, while offering a fun, tactile way to explore the world around them. The activity not only deepened students’ grasp of geography but also promoted teamwork, problem-solving, and artistic expression.
The finished projects transformed classrooms into vibrant galleries of student learning, showcasing the talent, curiosity, and enthusiasm of Islip Middle School’s young geographers.
