NYPD Jazz Band Brings Music and Joy to Commack Road Elementary School

Posted Date: 01/08/26 (03:54 PM)

NYPDStudents and staff at Commack Road Elementary School were treated to a special musical performance this week when the NYPD Jazz Band visited, filling the auditorium with vibrant jazz melodies and rhythms that had the whole school swaying.

The performance, part of the NYPD’s ongoing community outreach, showcased a repertoire of jazz standards and popular tunes performed by the department’s talented ensemble. Comprised of musicians who serve as NYPD officers, the Jazz Band uses music to build connections with young audiences and bring arts education to life outside the classroom.

During the lively concert, students clapped, tapped their feet, and some even danced in the aisles as the band delivered engaging renditions of classic and contemporary pieces. Teachers and administrators noted that the performance not only entertained but also provided an educational experience, introducing many students to genres and instruments they may not otherwise encounter.

The visit also reinforced the importance of community partnerships. Members of the NYPD interacted with students after the show, answering questions about the instruments they play and sharing insights into careers in music and public service.
