Wing Elementary School welcomed several members of the Islip community for its annual Community Reader Day, a special event designed to promote literacy and highlight the importance of reading through the school’s PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) initiative.

Throughout the day, community members, including Islip administrators, Board of Education members, and other local leaders, visited classrooms to read books with students and share their enthusiasm for learning. The event created a meaningful opportunity for students to hear stories from the very people who help guide and support the school district.

Community Reader Day is a cornerstone of Wing’s PARP programming, which encourages students to develop a lifelong love of reading while strengthening connections among families, schools, and the broader community.

By bringing leaders from across the district into classrooms, the event reinforces the message that literacy is a shared priority and an essential part of student success.

With each story read and each page turned, Community Reader Day reminded students that the entire Islip community stands behind them in their educational journey, and that the power of a good book can bring people together.
