Logo announcing a message from Superintendent of Schools Dennis P. O'HaraDear Islip Families,

Transportation is a major cost driver in our budget each year. Due to state mandates and rising fuel costs, we are anticipating a large increase in our transportation expenses for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. In an effort to continue the highest level of service and programs, I am reaching out to ask for your assistance as we look for efficiencies in all areas of our budget.

While we provide bus transportation to every student who lives within the District and beyond the transportation limit, we are aware that many students are driven to school each morning and/or picked up every afternoon. Thus, our buses often arrive or leave with few students on them. It would help us with our planning if we know how many students may skip the bus ride and be driven to/from school each day. Money saved by reducing mostly empty buses will help us maintain many other important programs for our students.

Please take a moment to complete this brief survey. If you intend for your child(ren) to utilize bus transportation, there is no need to complete the survey.

Please note: If you waive transportation for the 2026-2027 school year and your circumstances change, we will provide bus transportation for your child(ren).

Thank you for your cooperation, continued support, and partnership.

Sincerely,
Signature of Superintendent of Schools Dennis P. O'HaraDennis P. O'Hara, Ed.D.
