Sherwood Flag Day
The spirit of patriotism was on full display across Islip as students, families, veterans, educators and community members gathered at Commack Road Elementary School and Sherwood Elementary School to celebrate Flag Day through two meaningful ceremonies honoring the American flag and those who have served the nation.

At both schools, the events served as more than a lesson in history. They became powerful demonstrations of community pride, civic responsibility and gratitude. Veterans from across the area joined students and families, creating memorable opportunities for young learners to connect with those who have dedicated their lives to protecting the freedoms symbolized by the American flag.

Commack Road Elementary continued a long-standing tradition of celebrating Flag Day through music, student presentations and patriotic reflections. The ceremony highlighted the importance of honoring the nation's history while recognizing the sacrifices made by service members and first responders. Students showcased their talents through patriotic songs and educational presentations, reinforcing the values of citizenship and respect.

Meanwhile, Sherwood Elementary welcomed an impressive turnout of veterans whose presence helped transform the ceremony into a living lesson on service and sacrifice. Students proudly displayed their patriotism through performances and tributes that reflected the values of unity, freedom and gratitude. The event underscored the strong bond between the school and the broader community, with generations coming together to celebrate a shared love of country.

Together, the ceremonies demonstrated the lasting impact that Flag Day traditions have within the Islip community. Beyond waving flags and singing patriotic songs, students gained a deeper appreciation for the meaning behind the nation's symbols and the responsibilities that come with citizenship. The participation of veterans added a powerful personal connection, reminding everyone in attendance that patriotism is best expressed through service, respect and community engagement.

As the flags waved proudly and veterans were recognized with heartfelt appreciation, the ceremonies at Commack Road and Sherwood served as inspiring reminders of the values that unite the Islip community and the enduring importance of honoring those who have helped preserve the freedoms Americans enjoy today.
