Islip High School students enrolled in the LEAPES (Living Environment Advanced Placement Environmental Science) program visited the Town of Islip’s waste management facilities on March 12 and 13. Guided by Town of Islip recycling educator Danielle Wynn and Islip alumna Kennedy Esposito, they toured the Blydenburgh landfill and its wastewater treatment facility. The LEAPES students then took guided tours of the town’s waste-to-energy, composting and materials recovery facilities
“The field trip made the unit about waste management more meaningful, as our students actually saw the processes and systems that they learned about,” science teacher Frank Vaughn said.
