Commack Road Elementary School held its ninth annual Power of Pink Day on Oct. 18, showing support for breast cancer awareness. Staff proudly donned Power of Pink shirts, and the school’s entrance was lined with pink ribbons honoring those that have been affected by the disease. For the two weeks prior, students in Catherine Nieves’ fourth grade class participated daily by selling pink bracelets, pink pens and ribbons to raise money for the Islip Breast Cancer Coalition as well as the Jeannette Feminella Scholarship Fund.
“I am so grateful to the students, staff and community for continuously supporting this cause,” Nieves said
